A three month peer support group for writers, freelancers, and artists looking to have clearer systems and disciplines in their practice and business
This is a group container where we will share our work in three distinct containers : workshops, co-working, and peer support circles.
You will be assigned a group once everyone is in and we will split the time amongst us. Each person will have 15 minutes to present about their work and then have 10 minutes to receive feedback from the group. You could present for five minutes if you want!
It's a fun reason to make a slideshow in Canva or google slides and practice talking about your work. It's also an amazing way to get real time feedback from other artists and creative people who may think in similar and different ways.

WHO THIS IS FOR
You are a creative person, an artist, a writer, and you are looking for group accountability and structure to support you in your solo entrepreneurship. You are new to being self employed or are new to taking it more seriously and are looking in search of both strategy and devotion tactics. You have the money and time to invest in yourself and your work in new and profound ways.
This is for you if you want to root yourself in service work as an entry point, collective liberation as a goal post, and accessible pricing models as a new framework for doing business.
WHERE ARE YOU AT IN YOUR BUSINESS OR FINANCES
⚪️ You are making enough that the investment in Fieldwork feels like a natural next step and doesn’t stretch you financially.
⚪️ You are committed to your small business or art practice and are in a season of wanting it to grow in audience size and income.
⚪️ You are willing to put in the work to make it happen
Ready to uplevel in some way. Ready to expand with a new online class or book writing project.
Many groups like this try to get everyone to be at the same place business wise, but I would much rather see us at the same place energetically.
This is also for you if you are wanting to access more hope around earning money and sharing your work with the world. While we hold space for disappointment and failure, this is a space where we hold great gratitude for our work and what it affords and offers us. It is for people who have hope at the forefront with whatever pivot they are going through, and we put hope at the center of the group as a guide post.
This is for brainstorming and giving feedback. Joining this group means we might not all agree or see eye to eye with our ways of doing things, but we develop a listening practice where we can understand our peers and offer them feedback based on their own needs.
It is an opportunity to connect with other small business owners and feel less alone and more motivated.

WHAT MAKES FIELDWORK DIFFERENT
Fieldwork is rooted in queerness as a modality, anti capitalism as a framework, and curiosity as a guide post. While Fieldwork is a queer led space it is open to all people.
I do not claim to be perfect at running a radical business but I have dedicated the last twelve years of self employment to figuring out how to best be in alignment with my principles and values and how to weave them into my business.
Fieldwork is also fun! We are here to not take everything so seriously. The work is serious but we don’t have to be. I like to make jokes, play around, and have a lot of fun while I teach and facilitate. If you have heard my humor on my podcast or in Landscapes and you don’t vibe with it this probably isn’t the place for you!
Fieldwork isn’t just about making money or scaling your business. It’s about grounding your work in purpose and service, cultivating hope, and finding joy in the process of creating and sharing with the world.
WHY IS CODY THE ONE FOR THE JOB?
I am writing this myself so I will write to you as myself.
I have watched them even after one hour together gain the tools and resources to gain traction on projects and ease in their studies.
I have been a small business owner since 2012 when I opened up a shop for zines and handmade goods in a vintage camper that later became a storefront/gallery/artist residency called Have Company.
I have written five books, three of which are self published and two of which came out with Harper Collins. I am currently working on my sixth book, The Practice of Attention, which comes out with Sounds True in January 2026. My work has been featured in the New York Times, Dance Magazine, The New Yorker, and more.
I have a BFA in Dance from the University of Michigan and am currently an MFA Candidate in Creative Writing at Naropa University
I have made dozens of pivots throughout my career. Running different artist residencies, having public and private studios, buying a house as an unpartnered self employed artist with no generational wealth, gotten clear with my money systems, and managed to not totally run my business into the ground as a person with ADHD and Bipolar.
I love being an artist and I love solving problems together. I look forward to being in community in this way.

I will encourage us to be camera on and as present as possible live on Wednesdays as this is a space where I want us all to really feel supported by each other. But again you do not have to be “on” just to show up.
Show up fatigued, cranky, sick, or not full of hope. I will bring my magic to the zoom room in an effort to support you the best I can.
