WEEK ONE: 📄 INVENTING SHAPES

In week one we will explore all of the possible containers that our art and work can go in

I will teach you my ecosystem map for flowing between containers of my business and art practice : how newsletters inform books, how books inform classes, how classes inform quilts, how quilts inform art shows, how art shows inform newsletters, membership sites, paid subscription formats, and more

Through a series of journaling exercises we will name what we are and are not in our jobs as artists, writers, and creative practitioners

As a group we will brainstorm all of the different shapes our offerings can make and the difference between those shapes - The square of a 2 hour online course, the rectangle of a 4 week online course, the circle of a pdf resource guide

MARKETING AS A CREATIVE PRACTICE

I am so excited that in this week of class we will have guest teacher Amelia Hruby, host of the Off The Grid Podcast and genius behind 100 Ways to Share Your Work Off Social Media This week we will look at how marketing can be REALLY FUN and all the ways your work informs your other work - and how to use those are tools for promotion We will get unstuck from the sticky bad feelings of self promotion We will get excited about sharing our offerings with the world because they will be the PERFECT SHAPES and the best things about you is you are a SHAPE SHIFTER We will talk about how to weave in the shapes of your offerings into your other offerings without sounding like an ass hole - what if it could even be … cool And we will vision new ways for anti capitalist sharing, trading, and how we will talk about MONNNEYYYYYYYYY and how the more you make - THE MORE YOU CAN GIVE!

🖇 WEEK THREE : with guest teacher Jamila Reddy

PIVOTING WITH EASE
So excited to have my dear friend and Center Residency alum Jamila Reddy join us for week three - few people I know are able to pivot through work, life, joy, grief, teaching, writing, and living like Jamila - they are the perfect person to help us understand all the ways we can pivot between the shapes and containers we have created What happens when one of the jobs you have created for yourself sucks? What if you no longer want to take on 1:1 clients? What if you want to teach about the product you make and no longer sell that product? YOU TOTALLY CAN! After over a decade as a working artist I am thrilled to bring all the tools for how my career has pivoted time and time again - from a BFA in Dance to owning my own Shop/Gallery/Artist Residency to a little online shop out of my attic bedroom in Oakland to writing books, more artist residencies, Patreon to Substack, and SO MUCH MORE THIS IS THE WEEK WHERE YOUR FAITH IN YOURSELF AND YOUR SHAPES BLOSSOMS BEYOND MEASURE

THIS CLASS IS FOR YOU IF :

📌 You have one million ideas and no idea what to do with any of them

📌 You have some idea what to do with your ideas but do not know where to start

📌 It doesn’t feel like any of your ideas make any sense together and are all jumbled and you want them to make sense

📌 Thinking in shapes makes sense to you

📌 You love very fun not serious zoom room classes that are also filled to the brim with sincerity and light

📌 You are an artist and you are ready to up-level in your business

📌 Money and charging for your offerings is terrifying and you are ready to make the leap

While this class is about the shape of the things we make we will also talk about SELLING THOSE THINGS - we will not hide from the exchange of commerce in this class. We will see exactly how we will weave it in, and this includes hobbies and recreation unhooked from capitalism

You do not need to think you are an artist or writer or business person to take this class. Perhaps you just have a keen curiosity for inventing a one off art show or project. Want to sharpen your curatorial skills, be on IG less, make better connections with other people - there is no wrong reason to take class!

Possible containers to include in your shapes : poems, photographs, essays, podcast, newsletter, books, tv shows, YouTube channels, posters, website, pdfs, water bottles, a clothing line, quilts, and everything you can dream OF

DISCLAIMERWhether you are neurodivergent, ADHD, have a mood disorder, chronic pain, the list goes on - how much access we have to our relationship with overwhelm, distraction, and shutting down is dependent on many factors. It is important to remember I am facilitating as an artist, not as a therapist or someone trained within modalities of mental health. What this means is you'll have to take what you like and leave the rest! Not everything will work for every person, this container will, however, empower you to have the information to mold and fit to your specific needs and desires. It will also help you determine the difference between when you are just beating yourself up for not "doing something you said you would do - and shifting into a space of awe and devotion. This part might activate you - that's good : may the pushing back guide you closer to yourself. See you there!
