ABOUT THIS COURSE
After a four month social media sabbatical I returned only to find that the nature of the app immediately sucked me back in. In my four months away so much in me shifted and changed and I started to take an inventory of the other things that were pulling me away : tv, email, and the greatest of all : self doubt.

I knew that in order to be a teacher and artist AND promote my work digitally and physically I would have to shift both my relationship to technology as well as the WHY behind my art and what I consumed creatively.

In a series of short lessons and writing prompts I’ll guide you through everything I learned in my time away, and strategies and systems you can implement to guard your creative time with fierce protection and admiration for ourselves as writers and artists.

No matter where you are in your process of creating and sharing : a successful business person or just starting out, you can tailor the workshop to your needs! The best part : nothing is good or bad! TV rules! Phones are fun! Shopping woohoo! And ANYTHING can become the thing that pulls us away.

TOOLS WE WILL WORK TO IMPLEMENT 🦋 Naming our containers of creativity

🦋 Maintaining the many pots on the stove

🦋 Putting down the think

🦋 Ways of moving through and beyond perfectionism

🦋 Carving out focused time for practice

🦋 Identifying the differences between ROADBLOCKS
and DISTRACTIONS

PRESENTED IN FOUR PARTS ☀️ Getting clear on what we want to pay attention to and how

☀️ Distractions and Road Blocks

☀️ Setting ourselves up for creative success / Creative time together

☀️ Community Visioning / Questions

WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU SIGN UP :
  • Journal Prompts
  • Noticing Homework
  • Reading List
  • Additional resources and threads for self research
  • Lifetime access to the materials and recording of class

And my favorite part : you get TWO BONUS beautiful documents created for the class : an additional syllabus and notes we used live in the course AND a visioning workbook that you can duplicate and add to that we made as a group during the live class

If you’re feeling stuck and like you can’t even sit down to make art or content or work : this workshop is for you. It’s an invitation to get honest about our needs, our fears around scarcity, healing the enoughness demon, and really making your art

Accountability is a way to expand our devotion and commitments : consider sharing the link to class with a friend to join you.

QUESTIONS

Q: I quit social media, is this class for me?
A:  If even off of social media apps you still find your creative attention being pulled, not being able to find the time to make art, or feeling so nervous to share it you keep it private : this class is for you!

Q:  I'm not an artist, can I take this class?

A: Yes you can! Anyone who wants to tend to their creativity can take this class

Q:   I feel really strongly that I love looking at my phone and don't want to hear you complain about social media - will I like this class?

A: Great question! I love that you know what you love : looking at your phone! I love sharing my art and I do that on my phone a lot of the time. I don't think looking at your phone is bad or stupid but I do sometimes think it can pull us away from other things. This is class is WAY less about your phone and way MORE about what to do with the other hours of the day

Q:  If my excuses keep me safe and I really want to hold on to them and don't like when other people have breakthroughs should I take this class? Also will you be able to solve all of my self doubt?

A: No

Q:  What if I have literally one ounce of the willingness to be willing to get rid of some excuses, should I take this class? Will I leave feeling empowered and inspired?

A: Yes

WHO IS TEACHING THIS CLASS?

Consider this before you sign up - when signing up you are consenting to taking a class with a tornado person - This class is taught by Cody Cook-Parrott, an artist and writer, who has been self employed and teaching online classes since 2017.

Cody is not a therapist, mental health professional, trauma informed facilitator, or anything else that would give them credentials for talking about the brain and how it figures out how to plan a day.

They are a hermit and a social person and many things and skilled at planning as a Gemini, Human Design Manifestor, Queer person, freak, and artist. They love to create fun and joyful containers for figuring out how to live in the world as an expert of nothing, a devotee to the mystery.

Many of the lessons in this class are borrowed by and inspired by healing with ADHD, 12 step rooms, spiritual practice, The Artist’s Way, and more

They absolutely love teaching about how art, improvisation, creative practice, and attention all intersect with each other. How gorgeous the digital age is and how much it can distract us from our real life in the flesh, from digging in to the richness of our process.

For the past five years they have been researching, gathering information, and exploring how to recover my own attention. They are passionate about helping others do the same.

They also talk with their hands.

See terms and services for all online class here.

ENERGIES OF THE
ZOOM ROOM

Whether you are neurodivergent, ADHD, have a mood disorder, chronic pain, the list goes on - how much access we have to our relationship with overwhelm, distraction, and shutting down is dependent on many factors. It is important to remember I am facilitating as an artist, not as a therapist or someone trained within modalities of mental health.

What this means is you'll have to take what you like and leave the rest! Not everything will work for every person, this container will, however, empower you to have the information to mold and fit to your specific needs and desires.

It will also help you determine the difference between when you are just beating yourself up for not "doing something you said you would do - and shifting into a space of awe and devotion.

This part might activate you - that's good: may the pushing back guide you closer to yourself. See you there!

A final note on the energy of the Zoom room:

This could be a small group, it could be a huge group, your ex might be there or your old neighbor. The mystery of digital spaces will invite us into our beautiful boundaries. Honor your physical and emotional needs and shift them throughout sessions : camera on / camera off. Participate in the chat exercises or don't. Face your camera to show us a plant the whole time. This is your experience!

Many Blessings - Cody

It is my hope that this class empowers you to more prolific art making and moving from shallow work to deep work.

To finding ways of continued focus, ways to organize projects, and put them into the world.

As with anything I teach I hope you can apply what you like and leave the rest - may this short course bring you closer to yourself.
