WHAT YOU’LL GET 🖇 A two hour class

🖇 Immediate access to the zoom recording, recommended reading list, and FEAR + EXPANSION worksheet

🖇 Forever access to the class recording, worksheets, and resources

Expanding the language of your practice, cultivating social expression through knowledge sharing, and leaning into the art of the email list! 🌷

💡 Write a newsletter, pick your platform, build your list, organize your ideas, and share it with the world : This is often what stops most people from even starting. The overwhelm of seeing everyone else have a list with hundreds of people, thousands of social media followers, and feeling like they're already behind. The good news is : You are right on time and it is never too late to start. You'll be amazed what you can do with 20 people on an email list.

💡 Getting clear on the WHAT and the WHY : If you are new to writing about your work, or writing in general - we will go through a series of exercises to help you clarify what it is you want to talk about and WHY!

💡 Remember your efforts are of service to your readers :

We will talk about how to add adventure, optimism, and curiosity into our weeks via artist dates, field trips, book clubs, coworking spaces, and more - and how to weave these into a newsletter

💡 Newsletters can be for writing, promoting, sharing, and free of expectations :  People start newsletters for a variety of reasons. To have a regular place to share writing, market their products and work, promote their classes and offerings, and a mix of all of these things. We will go over the ways to mix and match!

WHY DO WE WRITE NEWSLETTERS?

Someone asked me "Why do you write books?" And without skipping a beat I said "God told me to write books and I don't question god"

In this two hour workshop we will unlock the magic of sharing, using the archetype of The Fool and the energy of Delilah* - you might be completely unhinged to think you should throw your name into the hat of public sharing. I promise you though, the world needs your newsletter.

If you are feeling called to write a newsletter, to talk about your work / life / art practice using the written word - ignoring this would be a huge disservice to you and the people who are waiting to read it.

It's true! People are waiting to read your newsletter! They are in their bedrooms and they are starting to form new ideas and they don't have the language for them yet.

Two of my favorite newsletters are : Annika is Dreaming by Annika Hansteen-Izora and How to Cure a Ghost by Fariha Roisin. When I read these newsletters it's always the experience that has been on the top of my tongue. My psych has begun to enter a new wave of processing but I haven't found the information to lock it into place. These are soft landing places for me, spaces I see myself refelcted back to me by my peers and friends.

It has been my experience that this is how people feel reading my newsletter. I think there is an assumption that BECAUSE I hit send every week I must be filled with an expansive confidence in what I am sharing. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Well, yes. I am. AND every time I hit send the little person inside of me who so desperately wants to be liked and not mess up is quivering in their tiny little boots.

I feel afraid and I hit send anyways. I write every Monday morning from 7-9am despite the fear I collect research and links and resources every week in an effort to pay closer attention and be of service I am called to do this and I imagine if you are reading this you are too.

*Delilah is an American radio personality best known as the host of a nationally syndicated nightly U.S. radio song request and dedication program, with an estimated 8 million listeners

QUESTIONS

Q : I'm not an artist and I don't have a business, can I take this class?

A: Yes you can! Also if those are things you are trying to cultivate : this class is definitely for you!

Q: Will you show me how to build an email list very fast with automated lead magnets and welcome sequences?

A: No! But there are really cool classes for that other places. I will absolutely support you in finding ways to market and share your work in week three and come up with creative ways for people to join your email list, become readers, or listeners - but this is not a fast track newsletter / email list marketing class

Q: Q: Is this class fun or really serious?

A: This class is fun I have never opened a zoom room in my life and not had fun. AND unblocking whatever has been keeping you from starting a newsletter or devoting more time to your writing / art practice is serious business! We are going to add ease and fun to this serious business

Q : What do you mean by citizen research?

A: My newsletter archetypes are Harriet the Spy and Clarissa Explains it All and I find that walking through the world as if my mind is a magnifying glass and there is a pencil in my hand - I get closer to the edges of truth, pain, enchantment, devotion, and generosity. I am practice so many different modalities in my own work and have found that writing, specifically in a newsletter, has helped me find the through line. I am a people amongst people, not an expert or scholar with a research fellowship. And that is what brings me to citizen researcher. Who wants to explain it all.

Q: Will I get rich after taking this class?

A: You might! That depends on your own relationship with earning, spending, and commitment to your work. Oh and also the many privileges you may or may not hold.

Again, this class is about deepening you relationship with synthesizing your notes, research, and interests into a container for public sharing. I find that when I am in this deep state of focus and reach people who are interested in my work - I do earn more money. And sometimes I do not and it is a total flop.

WHO IS TEACHING THIS CLASS?

Consider this before you sign up - when signing up you are consenting to taking a class with a tornado person - This class is taught by Cody Cook-Parrott, an artist and writer, who has been self employed and teaching online classes since 2017.

I absolutely love teaching about how art, improvisation, creative practice, and devotion all intersect with each other. One of my favorite ways of doing this is through the art of the weekly newsletter. This keeps me connected to my readers and my audience, my past and future students, and to myself!

Writing a newsletter is how I stay tuned into my own practice as an artist, improviser, writer, facilitator, and teacher.

Reading newsletters is part of how I find myself, writing them is how I find my people, and sharing them is how I get over myself.

See terms and services for all online class here.

ENERGIES OF THE
ZOOM ROOM

Whether you are neurodivergent, ADHD, have a mood disorder, chronic pain, the list goes on - how much access we have to our relationship with overwhelm, distraction, and shutting down is dependent on many factors. It is important to remember I am facilitating as an artist, not as a therapist or someone trained within modalities of mental health.

What this means is you'll have to take what you like and leave the rest! Not everything will work for every person, this container will, however, empower you to have the information to mold and fit to your specific needs and desires.

It will also help you determine the difference between when you are just beating yourself up for not "doing something you said you would do - and shifting into a space of awe and devotion.

This part might activate you - that's good: may the pushing back guide you closer to yourself. See you there!

A final note on the energy of the Zoom room:

This could be a small group, it could be a huge group, your ex might be there or your old neighbor. The mystery of digital spaces will invite us into our beautiful boundaries. Honor your physical and emotional needs and shift them throughout sessions : camera on / camera off. Participate in the chat exercises or don't. Face your camera to show us a plant the whole time. This is your experience!

Many Blessings - Cody
