📨 CREATING CONTAINERS
📨 SHARING OUR NOTES

You do not need to have a business, an art practice, or even any idea what you want to write and talk about in order to take this class. And you DEFINITELY do not need to identify as a writer or artist or have a desire to write a lengthy newsletter. This will support you in having more clarity in how you talk about your work and bring it into a new light.

ABOUT THIS CLASSYou have already begun your practice in a smaller container of learning - your creative attention, devotions, newsletters, co-working time, building your online class

This is an invitation to deepen your process and stop fighting yourself in the journey of putting it into the world. The world needs your online class, your podcast, the newsletter where you tell them about these things, the book you have been meaning to write, the dance you are choreographing, the painting you just started.

💎 We will meet live on zoom three Sundays in a row as well as have co-working time between classes that is conversational in nature for questions, answers, group brian storming and visioning

There is a benefit to separating our work from our life and our hobbies from our income generating practices - but what if we also found a way to have them all flow within each other through a lens of research.

🌪 In this class we will develop organized practices for tornado people (if you are actually a very organized tidy person you will still love class!) and the importance of the day to day research we are called to do as citizen artists, as citizen researchers.

We will find rituals and our own true pace of collecting data, storing it, and finding its way to output. We will destroy any idea we need a fellowship to be a researcher, a studio to be an artist, a degree to hold a title.

✏️ We will sharpen the skills of our writing and how we talk about our work and our research, we will stretch beyond our limited beliefs.

And as always, we will find ways that service weaves seamlessly into our work and is not separate - but an integral piece of the puzzle

THIS IS FOR YOU IF 🌼 For years you have thought : I want to write a newsletter, create a podcast, make a book, teach, craft an amazing syllabus - but I have no idea where to start

🌼 You signed up for Mailchimp or Substack but hitting send is absolutely terrifying so you never do

🌼 You're pretty sure you have nothing to say or everything you have to say is stupid

🌼 You already have a newsletter or book idea but you wan't to become a better and clearer writer

🌼 You want to streamline the process of gathering ideas and and generating creative output

Since 2013 I have been using the World Wide Web to share my ideas, art, and writing in newsletter format to thousands of readers. In 2017 I began doing this weekly and found that it transformed my writing, my connection to people, and my relationship to the world around me. I have created many different containers for my work that all integrate with my paths of research and exploration

I have had podcasts, radio shows, advice columns, and more - a variety of containers to share my notes on listening, paying attention, and practice with the world I find more CONSISTENCY, DISCIPLINE, DEVOTION, AND SATISFACTION when my art practice is deeply rooted in research and experimentation.

WOVEN INTO EACH WEEK
💡 Pay closer attention to what you read, write, and study and synthesize it for creative public format: Identifying what the hell you want to write and talk about in the first place and how it fits into your business, art practice, and personal life. How to turn specific life events into approachable topics for readers, and inviting ritual and magic to heighten your awe and noticing in the world.

💡 Turn every week into a research project:Perhaps every week you feel scattered with your notes, ideas, thoughts, and don't know where to put them or how to organize them. I won't teach you any specific ways to organize your research per se (there are other amazing courses for that!) but I will show you my own process of turning the chaos of the notes app, lists, sticky notes, and links into an easy to read newsletter, advice column, art show, course, book, and more!

💡 Write a newsletter, record a podcast, make a book: Pick your platforms, build your list, organize your ideas, and share it with the world** : This is often what stops most people from even starting. The overwhelm of seeing everyone else have an email list with hundreds of people, thousands of social media followers, a podcast with thousands of downloads, and feeling like they're already behind. The good news is : You are right on time and it is never too late to start. You'll be amazed what you can do with 20 people on an email list and a few ears eager to listen

💡 Turn your efforts into an act of service to the people who are interested in what you say:We will look into creating a retreat / residency mindset on a solo adventure or at your own kitchen table. Think artist dates, field trips, book clubs, co working spaces, and more

QUESTIONS

Q : I'm not an artist and I don't have a business, can I take this class?

A: Yes you can! Also if those are things you are trying to cultivate : this class is definitely for you!

Q: Will you show me how to build an email list very fast with automated lead magnets and welcome sequences?

A: No! But there are really cool classes for that other places. I will absolutely support you in finding ways to market and share your work in week three and come up with creative ways for people to join your email list, become readers, or listeners - but this is not a fast track newsletter / email list marketing class

Q : What do you mean by the people’s research?

A: My newsletter archetypes are Harriet the Spy and Clarissa Explains it All and I find that walking through the world as if my mind is a magnifying glass and there is a pencil in my hand - I get closer to the edges of truth, pain, enchantment, devotion, and generosity.

I practice so many different modalities in my own work and have found that writing, specifically in a newsletter, has helped me find the through line. I am a people amongst people, not an expert or scholar with a research fellowship. And that is what brings me to the people’s researcher. Who wants to explain it all.

Q: Will I get rich after taking this class?

A: You might! That depends on your own relationship with earning, spending, and commitment to your work. Oh and also the many privileges you may or may not hold.

Again, this class is about deepening your relationship with synthesizing your notes, research, and interests into a container for public sharing. I find that when I am in this deep state of focus and reach people who are interested in my work - I do earn more money. And sometimes I do not and it is a total flop.

BUT I JUST WANT TO MAKE A BLOG / PODCAST / INSTAGRAM CAPTION CAN I STILL TAKE CLASS? YOU KEEP TALKING ABOUT BOOKS

YES YES YES! Here is the deal : this class is about how we take what we see, feel, think, and experience in the world and translating it into material for humans to publicly interact with. You absolutely do not need to turn it into a book.

WHO IS TEACHING THIS CLASS?

Consider this before you sign up - when signing up you are consenting to taking a class with a tornado person - This class is taught by Cody Cook-Parrott, an artist and writer, who has been self employed and teaching online classes since 2017.

Cody is not a therapist, mental health professional, trauma informed facilitator, or anything else that would give them credentials for talking about the brain and how it figures out how to plan a day.

They are a hermit and a social person and many things and skilled at planning as a Gemini, Human Design Manifestor, Queer person, freak, and artist. They love to create fun and joyful containers for figuring out how to live in the world as an expert of nothing, a devotee to the mystery.

Many of the lessons in this class are borrowed by and inspired by healing with ADHD, 12 step rooms, spiritual practice, The Artist’s Way, and more

See terms and services for all online class here.

ENERGIES OF THE
ZOOM ROOM

Whether you are neurodivergent, ADHD, have a mood disorder, chronic pain, the list goes on - how much access we have to our relationship with overwhelm, distraction, and shutting down is dependent on many factors. It is important to remember I am facilitating as an artist, not as a therapist or someone trained within modalities of mental health.

What this means is you'll have to take what you like and leave the rest! Not everything will work for every person, this container will, however, empower you to have the information to mold and fit to your specific needs and desires.

It will also help you determine the difference between when you are just beating yourself up for not "doing something you said you would do - and shifting into a space of awe and devotion.

This part might activate you - that's good: may the pushing back guide you closer to yourself. See you there!

A final note on the energy of the Zoom room:

This could be a small group, it could be a huge group, your ex might be there or your old neighbor. The mystery of digital spaces will invite us into our beautiful boundaries. Honor your physical and emotional needs and shift them throughout sessions : camera on / camera off. Participate in the chat exercises or don't. Face your camera to show us a plant the whole time. This is your experience!

Many Blessings - Cody
